Leaning into a neon aesthetic, “You Make Me Wonder”, explores the relationship between light, color and line to create emotion. The work uses photography and digital manipulation as a medium but relies heavily on in-studio lighting and effects.  Influenced by artists such as Victoria Seimer and Olivia Steele, this work borrows conceptual elements from their romanticized neon style but morphs the high contrast and vivid colour into a nearly melodramatic interaction with the figure.
While the title lends some insight to the relationship between the figures, it intentionally leaves ambiguity to peak curiosity and allow for a wide range of interpretation. In each image, through the striking light, the subject is akin to a neon sign in the darkness, demanding attention yet paradoxically lacking the clarity of message inherent to neon signage. The use of saturated, vivid colours heightens emotions and plays into the glossy and romanticized tone which further encourages the development of fanciful narratives. Smooth lines of light complement the subject, curving with the body and creating a feeling of intimacy without revealing too much. All the while, the clean, bold color draws the viewer into the intimate setting it creates.
Due to the loose narrative, these images may exist in many configurations however, large prints or arrangements are necessary to amplify a grandiose feeling of wonder and fascination. The work would be printed with rich colours and blacks, then raised on the wall to enhance depth. Finally, in its ideal presentation, the images are to be accompanied by a neon text installation of the title.
